Croatia Reaches World Cup Final For The First Time
Croatia reaching FIFA World Cup finals for the first time ever proves that the national team is the Cinderella of international football after they defeated favorites England in a shocking semi-finals match. They defeated England by 2 - 1 and will be facing France in the finals that will take place on July 15, 2018. France’s 19-years old star, Kylian Mbappe, just won a $217 million contract with Paris Saint Germain on July 7, 2018. The match was going at 1 - 1 but then Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic hit the second goal for his team in the 109th minute, which sealed their final step to the World Cup trophy. Even if you have been making online sports predictions, you would have to be really good at it to predict Croatia in the finals!
This will be Croatia’s first time playing a final’s match ever since its independence in 1991. England had almost hit a second goal but defender Sime Vrsaljko was successful in keeping the ball away from the goal post. Kevin Trippier hit England’s only goal in the 68th minute of the match. This is Croatia’s third match that they played for extra minutes. France has played the finals one and won it during the 1998 World Cup, which was hosted on its home ground. The French team defeated Belgium by 1 - 0 in a thrilling match on July 10, 2018.
This sadly ends England’s campaign, “it’s coming home”. There won’t be any epic celebration at the Wembley and we all are very sad about it. England has appeared in 15 World Cup finals, having won only one of them - the 1960 World Cup against West Germany. This makes England one of the eight national teams to have won at least one World Cup ever since its inception in 1930.
Overcoming a poor start
When Croatia entered the tournament, they entered as a team of young and inexperienced soccer players who wanted to experience playing at such a high level. Even during the first few minutes into the semi-finals game against England, Croatia players showed anxiety and looked unsure but as Ivan Perisic hit the team’s first goal in the second half, they portrayed nothing but determination and enthusiasm.
On other hand, England seemed too confident since the beginning of the match and didn’t quite put up any resistance or threats. Reaching the finals makes Croatia the second smallest European country after Uruguay to reach the World Cup finals. Belgium and England will play in July 14, 2018 for the third position. The two teams were together in Group stage in which Belgium had defeated England. If they are to replicate their performance, England will have to settle for the fourth position.
We hope that England at least takes the third position home. *pun intended* If Croatia wins the trophy it will be the most shocking win in the history of FIFA World Cup .The win will not only bring fame and glory to the nation but change will also change the destiny of the players bringing them big contracts and a chance to play with famous teams in Champions League, Ligue 1, and more.
Now that they are only one match away from their first ever World Cup win, what do you think? Will they be able to go all the way?
